From the moment that the first mutants became widely known within the USA, the Government began to grow concerned with the possibility that someday, mutants will evolve socially and politically. A significant amount of money of money was pumped into a new program in Black Ops which was designed to handle the potential mutant threat. This investment was in development for a considerable time, time in which the mutant population appeared to boom at an alarming rate.
Anxious not to fall too far behind, the Government insisted that the prototypical results from their latest super secret project be given the chance to prove that the money was well spent. The results of this initial project were the Sentinels. Although an initial success, it was soon clear that a new direction was needed. The Sentinel program was abolished and a new one set up. This one would see the physiological, mental and tactical development of selected armed forces personnel into ‘super soldiers’. This new army was specifically developed to be resistant to most known mutant abilities.
At the height of the mutant population boom, when mutant and mutant leaders were talking or fighting among themselves, the first of these super soldiers appeared and had a devastating effect upon the mutant populace. Scores of mutants were captured, imprisoned or killed. As part of the Super Soldier program, arrays of internment camps were also opened up to hold mutants that had been taken prisoner. These camps, much like prisons, were often to be the last stop in the life of any mutant.
The X-Men were as appalled as anyone to see what was happening, and resolved to try to do something about it. The Super Soldiers, having negated many of the free roaming mutants, turned their sights on Xavier’s Mansion itself. An offensive was launched that proved to be a great success. The mansion itself and a lot of it’s technological features was destroyed. Although they fought valiantly, many of the X-Men were either killed or captured. The X-Men that were captured ended up in one of the dreaded Internment Camps.
The destruction of the mansion sent shockwaves through the nation. Many mutants unaffected to date tried to leave the country. Most of those were also taken captive and forced to go to the Internment Camps. After several more months of searching, the Government firmly believe that the mutant race has finally been eradicated.
But still a few mutants remain at large. To this day they have yet to be detected, but they live in constant fear that they will be.

The X-Men RPG has been given a makeover. The entire RPG is based around the supposition that the familiar team of X-Men have been replaced by a new generation of mutants, all totally original and not a single canonical character in sight.
