Step 2: Applying
Before applying for a canon character, please refer to the Proper Etiquette on Choosing Characters topic for more information.
- When choosing a canon character, please consult the Character List when deciding on which available character you wish to claim.
- When choosing an adoptable character, please consult the Adoptable Character F.A.Q. for further inquiries on applying for an adoptable character.
- When applying for an original character, please consult the Original Character Guidelines for further information.
- When applying for an available canon character or adoptable character, an audition post must be submitted, in the Canon Character Auditions board, before proceeding with the rest of the application process. Original Characters do not need to submit an audition post.
- Audition posts are the deciding factor on whether a member receives the canon character they desire. At Marvel Universe: The Saga of 616, it’s not how fast you can apply for a character that matters, but how well you apply. Marvel Universe: The Saga of 616 does not believe in a “first come, first serve” basis when assigning members their canon characters. Being first to simply want to play the character will not grant permission to actually play it. A member’s skill, accuracy, knowledge, and authenticity are what truly merits their claim over a canon Marvel Universe character. A member’s audition post is the culmination of those valued attributes. Administrators will judge the audition post as a representation of the member’s ability to properly portray the character. The audition post must express, through the writing, all the right reasons why the member deserves to play as they character they desire.
- An audition post will be posted in its own topic with the title of the character being auditioned for as the topic title. Within the topic will be the audition post itself.
- Audition posts may be as long or as short as the member auditioning desires, though administrators prefer that the post itself be ample enough to properly express the member’s best portrayal of the character. They may portray their character at whichever point in time of their character’s history, though administrators prefer that the post itself be recent with setting of their character during the board’s current events.
- Members may even present a Comic Book Adaptation, which stars their character, as an audition post.
- Once posted, a Marvel Universe: The Saga of 616 administrator will review the audition post and judge it accordingly. Should the administrator feel the member’s audition post is proof enough for the member to play the character they seek, the administrator will reply to the topic and approve the audition for the next step. If the administrator does not feel the member is adequate enough to play the character, the administrator will reply to the topic explaining why and what exactly about the audition post does not properly portray the character—the member must then wait one week before auditioning for the same character again and must present a new audition post.
- Should a Marvel Universe: The Saga of 616 administrator review the audition post and deny the audition, the administrator may offer the member the option to appeal the administrator’s decision: only under the compliance that the member will retain the character in question under an adoptable status. The member may not request the adoptable status to be removed, while under their claim, until one month after their character’s acceptance has been approved. Should the member request the removal of their character’s adoptable status, Marvel Universe: The Saga of 616 administrators will review the player’s capability, with the character in question, and will then make a decision based player’s progress and performance with the character. Should the administrators retain the character’s adoptable status after the decision is made, the player may request another review one month after the previous review has been processed.
- Canon Characters are still available to be auditioned for as long as the character is not taken on the Character List. A character is not officially taken until the member has an approved audition, an accepted profile, and has agreed to The Canon Character’s Oath. Until those three subjects have met compliance, the character in question is still available. Topics left unfinished or in progress will not validate claim over the character.
Step 3: Character Acceptance
Only after a member’s audition post for the available canon character, or adoptable character, is approved can members then post the profile for that character. Members applying for an original character may post their character’s profile without auditioning.
- For properly presenting the character’s profile, please refer to Marvel Universe: The Saga of 616’s Template.
- The profile must be presented within its own topic, containing the character’s name as the topic title, within the Character Roster board. The topic must follow the Marvel Universe: The Saga of 616 template and have all information within it filled out to the best of the member’s knowledge.
- The character’s history within the profile must be exact with the current setting of the game itself. To pinpoint exactly where within the character’s history the game is currently set, visit the Marvel Release List or consult an administrator.
- Once completed, an administrator will review the character’s profile for acceptance. If any data within the profile is incorrect or not current with the RPG’s current setting, the administrator will instruct the member to properly modify the profile and replace it with the correct data.
- When the administrator approves of the character’s profile, the administrator will ask the member, within the topic, if they agree to the terms of service described within The Canon Character’s Oath if the character is canon to the Marvel Universe. Only after the member replies with their compliance and agreement is the player is truly granted access to the character they have sought to claim; the administrator then will accept the character. The topic with the character’s profile will be relocated to the Accepted Canon Characters board.
- The member must then change their display name to the official name of the character they received. A power grid, currently representing the character’s abilities, and display image, currently representing the character’s official appearance, will be appended, by an administrator, to the member’s profile.
- Members submitting an original character for acceptance do not need to agree to The Canon Character’s Oath.
Step 4: The Game
This is it. The Marvel Universe made to be experienced by the accepted members on this board. A game like never before. A true, authentic, accurate representation of the Marvel Universe. Guaranteed.
- With an understanding of The Rules of Marvel Universe: The Saga of 616, players may begin and continue their game experience.
- Players may join or create topics, within the setting and location within their proper boards, according to the current status and setting that their character is within—so long as they remain within one game topic, and only one game topic, at a time. They may not participate within multiple game topics at the same time.
- Players will advance their character’s status and history at the general pace that the game sets—visible through the Marvel Release List.
- Players are required to be present within any Comic Book Adaptations that include their character or may join other Comic Book Adaptations that do not include their character—so long as that their character is not engaged in any other topics at that time or that their character’s appearance within the topic isn’t logical to the event itself.
- When not engaged within a Comic Book Adaptation, players are free to play their character in other topics as they would be in-between the canon events of Comic Book Adaptations. Marvel Universe: The Saga of 616 believes in the policy of filling in the blanks. Players are free to follow only canon events should they chose to, but are also allowed, and encouraged, to play their character as they would be between the panels of what’s not shown in the comic books themselves. Commonly, the comic books do not always cover the character’s every action and thought; players have the privilege of writing those unseen events in themselves.
- Players are not obliged to write their own character’s canon events through Comic Book Adaptations, but are enthusiastically encouraged to. Administrators will post player’s Comic Book Adaptations if the player does not post one of their own. Though the writing of their character’s canon events are not required by the player, they may not progress within the character’s history until such canon events are experienced.
- Should a player fall too far behind within their character’s history and progress that it does not match the game’s current pace and setting, an administrator may place the player’s character under adoptable status.
- Scene Passes may be utilized to skip, or pass, Comic Book Adaptations that involve their character. To learn more about Scene Passes, visit the Scene Pass FAQ.
