History: To fully appreciate the exploits of the Red King, one must be familiar with his esteemed father, the Father Emperor. The Father Emperor of Sakaar is the Imperial solider turned warlord whose exploits united the nations of Imperia during the Wars of Empire and saved the planet from alien invasion during the Spike War. Much of the early history of the Father Emperor of Sakaar is shrouded in mystery — most of the official documents and records recording his early days were destroyed during the Wars of Empire and the Spike War. A number of legends and stories regarding the Father Emperor’s past circulate among survivors and veterans of those early wars. But the New Encyclopedia and the official history of Imperial Sakaar agree on the salient points of the following:
The Father Emperor of Sakaar was born as the son of a Senator into the most privileged class of the city-state of Umegus in the year 466 Post. The boy, named Angmo, grew up in the Mansions of Congress, where the rich and influential enjoyed all the luxuries Umegus could provide. But while his peers studied law and politics with the intention of inheriting their fathers’ offices, Angmo spent his days sneaking past the walls surrounding the Mansions of Congress to play with the gangs of street children who lived in the Umegan slums. He later joined the army under an assumed name, rising swiftly to the rank of Captain. When the city was attacked by invaders from the Kingdom of Okni who had destroyed the bulk of the army in an ambush, Angmo saved the day by arming the street gangs of the slums and leading them against the invaders. With the military leadership of the city decimated, Angmo revealed his true identity and became a General. He promptly restructured the army, admitting any person regardless of social class. Any slave willing to fight was granted his or her freedom and allowed to join. Angmo then led his troops against the neighboring Kingdom of Okni in what became the start of the Wars of Empire in 486 Post, making Okini’s ruling class pay for the death of his father with their blood following a year-long siege of the capital city of T’msar. After Okini fell to Angmo, he annexed it into a new political entity known as Greater Umegus. Joined by the Kingdom of Wukar, which voluntarily became part of Greater Umegus, General Angmo then launched his famed march across Sakaar, demanding the allegiance of all other kingdoms. Any who resisted were attacked and conquered — with their noble classes slaughtered and their slaves and oppressed lower classes granted all the rights of the citizens of Greater Umegus. Over the next fifteen years, Angmo’s Wars of Empire led to the creation of a grand coalition of states, which even included Native hives. After the defeat of the Kingdom of Fillia, the final Imperial state to resist General Angmo’s dominance, in 500 Post, General Angmo officially established the First Sakkarian Empire and took the title of the Father Emperor of Sakaar. But with the external enemy defeated, some politicians from recently conquered member states of the Empire began to chafe under the Father Emperor’s rule, claiming that the Imperial Senate and Regional Community Congresses which Angmo had established were merely for show and that the people had no voice in the Father Emperor’s new world order.
But before the grumbling could turn to action, the alien invaders known as Spikes arrived on the planet and began their horrifying attack. All the Empire’s members states united under the military leadership of the Father Emperor. Even the Shadow People, who had thus far resisted any allegiance with the Empire, entered into the Shadow Treaty with the Empire in 535 Post in order to fight the invaders. But even the combined might could not stop the Spikes. Struggling to find a way to defeat the Spokes and save his world, the Father Emperor walked into the barren expanses of the Northern Steppes for tseven days of fasting and prayer. On his seventh day in the Steppes, the Great Portal emerged for the first time and a flagship full of cybernetic Death’s Head units fell to the planet’s surface. The Father Emperor and his troops were the first on the scene, and the Death’s Head units kneeled at his feet after he used his Shadowforge blade to fell the lead unit of Death’s Heads. With his new legion of Death’s Head Warguard, the Father Emperor eventually defeated the Spikes in 540 Post, exiling them on Sakaar’s broken moon of Sabyr after ordering a bombing raid that obliterated the Spokes’ base of operations on Sakaar, which also happened to be the Father Emperor’s hometown.
Following the Spoke War, the Father Emperor ruled for many years, although tensions remained between him and the various Regional Community of Congresses that he established. But, aside from the robot rebellions that occurred in the decade after the war, Sakaar knew peace for the rest of his days. The Father Emperor died in 552 Post while hunting on the plains of Upper Vandro, leaving his Empire to his son, Angmo II, the Hero Protector and Crown Prince of Sakaar. Upon ascending to the throne, he took the name “Red King.”
The Red King’s exploits predate his ascension to the Imperial throne by decades. Born in 519 Post, just before the midpoint of the Spike War, the Crown Prince grew up in Geot City (later renamed Crown City), since the Spokes had already captured the First Imperial Capital City four years prior to his birth. Although even oligarchs made sacrifices during thes years of war, the Crown Prince led a relatively pampered life, attending Tego’s Seccondary Forums and constantly yearning to enter the battle against the Spikes. Upon reaching age 16, the impetuous young Crown Prince ran away from home, ordering a young team of Imperial Guard trainees to accompany him on a mission to destroy Spikes. Against all odds, the Crown Prince’s team traveled all the way to the outskirts of the Great Desert where they found a young Shadow girl by the name of Caiera the Oldstrong, who appeared to be the sole survivor of a Spike attack on her Shadow community. Although one year younger than the Crown Prince, Caiera was already taller and stronger than anyone of his soldiers due to her unique Shadow physiology, and the Prince decided to recruit her into his ranks. As the Crown Pricne and his young troops ventured across Sakaar slaying Spikes, he became known as the Empire’s Hero Protector. When the Father Emperor entered into the Shadow Treaty with the Shadow People, Caiera became warbound to the Crown Prince by treaty.
Since ascending to the Imperial throne in 552 Post, the Father Emperor’s ruling style has been criticized by rebels and other malcontents. His most controversial move in recent years was to initiate a war against the Fillians in 560 Post and then increase standard provincial tributes to help pay for his war.
