All my life, all I ever wanted was to serve my country, just like he did. I wanted to be like him, not afraid of anyone or anything. Now all I can do is wonder. Johnny Walker sat up in his hospital bed, his arms and legs wrapped in white bandages, as he held a photo of his older brother, who had died in the Vietnam War, when Johnny was still just a kid. Did I make you proud of me? These thoughts swarmed around in his head, as he thought about what was going on in his country, while he recovered from his fight with The Purpleman. The Purpleman not only defeated him, but managed to humiliate him and take his vibranium shield in the process. He had been defeated before, in the past by the likes of Steve Rogers and Protocide, who came closer to killing him than anyone else, but no one had ever manged to get inside his head and control his body before. Have I let you down? To make matters worse, the head of S.H.I.E.L.D., Tony Stark, is trying to force Johnny to go to Canada, along with another former Avenger, Arachne. As he thought back to the tail end of his fight with the Purpleman, he had to struggle to hold back the rage that was inside of him, as he recalled the Purpleman using his Pheromones, to get him to jump out of the helicopter, nearly killing himself.
Suddenly, his door was open and Tony Stark walked in again. "You look well, all things considered." Tony said, as he closed the door behind him. He was wearing his S.H.I.E.L.D., uniform, which meant he wasn't there to socialize, not that he and Johnny ever did. "What do you want Stark? I already told you that I'm an American hero, so I ain't going to Canada. Understand?" He said, crossing his arms over his chest. He didn't see eye to eye with Tony or any of the other Avenger for that matter, save for Arachne. Tony's face showed no emotion, as he looked at the former Avenger. "Look Walker, I never did like you, but I do respect you. You survived a fall that would have killed most men, and you're nearly healed from your injuries. I need someone like you to represent SHRA to the rest of the world, and the best place for you right now is Canada." "And give me one reason I should go." He said, as he thought of all the cowards who left America to go to Canada to escape the draft during the 60's and 70's. As far as he was concerned, that country was worse than Hell. It was then that Tony finally smiled, as though to say, 'gotcha'. "Because according to our intel, that's were the Purpleman is, with your shield."
As Tony suspected, that was the one thing that Johnny needed to hear. His eyes widened for a second, knowing that he couldn't say no and that he was letting himself be used be Tony, but then he smiled, and stood up, before grabbing a parachute and making his way to the beck of the Helicarrier, where he had been recovering from his injuries. "Alright Stark, I'll play your game. For now." With that, he grabbed a gym bag containing his uniform and the adamantium shield that Rogers had used for a short time, and jumped off the deck of the Helicarrier, into the Canadian wilderness.
